Disney Max Mix

Posted by michaelshawnlane on September 21, 2006

Those of you who can’t get enough Disney items with those cute little Mickey Mouse ear logo on them. Well you are in luck. Disney is launching there first digital media player next month.

The cost of the player will be $99.99. Before you get to excited about that price and quit reading here is what the Max Mix can do. It allows playback of video, music, and photo files. It comes with 512 megs of storage and can be expanded some with SD memory cards.

Disney will also offer full-length films on memory cards called Max Clips. These films are obviously aimed at the younger market. Films like High School Musical, Confessions or a Teenage Drama Queen and Ella to name a few.

Disney is not trying to compete against the Apple iPod. They are going for a younger market. I believe they will have a lot of success with this. Especially with the holiday season quickly approaching.

Yeah, but where can helpful mom’s and dad’s download WMV format videos for the wee tots? We picked one up intending to give it to my nephew to let him prove that he’s responsible enough for an iPod, however, we cannot find anywhere that let’s you purchase and download a WMV for such as the Cheetah Girls or Hannah Montana. Sure iTunes lets you download videos, but they don’t offer WMV format, and my sister-in-law is not tech savvy enough to download and convert, especially when she has to hunt for the video.

Just got one for my daughter. Ive been encoding our DVD collection. For a single DVD, like Pirates of the Carribean 2, it took me 4 hours total. I first had to rip it from the DVD. I used Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum. It does a better job than the free utilities out there. I used Super and another one. The audio and video never quite matched up, and the encoding often failed anyway.

Once I had it in a early WMV format, I used the Windows Media Encoder to narrow it down to a tuned WMV format that the Max Mix can play without issue. I was able to then put a total of 5 full length movies on her Max Mix (including a 2GB SDcard), and still had room for some smaller videos and some pictures and music.

Encoding is a hassle, but there is no way Disney is going to tell you how to do this, as it would violate hundreds of copywrite laws of other companies. Once Christmas hits, I will publish the review of the device in full, as well as instructions and the needed utilities to accomplish the tasks.

Overall, it gives me more work. If I thought a 8 year old could encode this stuff on her computer, Id let her, but there are too many things to check and make sure is correct. Im alot older, and I forget.

A second computer is a good idea just for encoding. I wouldnt try this on anything less than a P4 or XP Athlon, as it could take several more hours than typical.

This includes any indications of fraud presented by errors and deviations, since the main objective is to gather evidence for litigation
purposes. A resulting discrepancy denotes an imbalanced book
of accounts for which transactions have to be reviewed in order to trace the cause
of the discrepancy and bring the book to a balance.
